Cam Lifter Shim Tool

Just bend the legs that push down so they conform to the round lifter cup they are pushing down, instead of a small contact patch it would be a little bigger.
Looking at the end of the leg that contacts the lifter cup it would look like curved instead of round.

Now I see what you mean!
You want to radius the length of the two arms in order to match the circumference of the lifter cup.
It would be a slightly better purchase; however, hard to do, hard to match and not really worth the effort for a single use.
Would be good for a mass-produced tool to market.

That string of posts and confusion seems a little weird seeing as you were all participants in this one where discussion occurred with images of the factory Yamaha tool features.

Ish,
I do not see how that tool could work on a Rocket.

What is the outside diameter of the Tappet Bucket, parts fische #21, Triumph # T1130065?

It won't work on a Rocket as is (maybe if a hole is drilled centrally), but the cutouts on the tips that engage the lifter bucket is the same concept as you have been discussing with @Bob R .

Your plan each leg is 1 5/8"(41.275mm)

@Rocket Scientist 's plan has 1 3/8" (35mm)

The seller of the Yamaha tool advised:
25mm between the legs and 34-35mm from the tip to the base of each leg measured with a vernier caliper.

I am unsure if he measured to outer edge or inner edge of leg base.

This makes me do some thinking, perhaps I will pursue it and we could have a few floating tools that could be shipped between owners when needed. Just a thought.

Edited post #24 above @Bob R

I have the Yamaha tool on order to modify and examine. If they look like doing the job with at best a single hole drilled centrally he is open to offers for bulk numbers/group buy etc.

The yamaha tool is great and clearly more effort was put into developing it. As bull said, it was a one time use item. He's got 60k miles and I only had to adjust 2 valves... plus I have shim under so literally no use for it again... ever.

PS: Steve when I used the feelers on the new valves they came out at .12-.13 clearances, so, centered on the acceptable range, I think I forgot to tell you that.

Gratitude!
.0047" to .0051" tis right in the wheelhouse.

@Ishrub
Your Yamaha guy aware of our cam ladder height dims and how they compare?
That Yamaha 34mm - 35mm (1.339" - 1.378") leg length is quite a bit shorter than our tool at 1.625" (a 1/4").
Regardless of the ladder height to the Tappet bucket, we just need to depress the bucket enough to clear the shim and our tool did it easily.
FYI -
I have bought a window & door clip remover tool. It looks like a possible easy make into a good Tappet bucket depressor tool for our Rockets.
The dims are very close . . .

I need to know the diameter of our tappet buckets . . . anybody know?

You are welcome to use mine.
I'll be with RAA West in Lewiston, ID on July 15th.
I could also have my brother, Dan bring it to Spokane on July 14th for our Blue Knight lunch at the Vets Home.
