This morning i changed out my brakes pads front and rear in less than an hour. Good thing i didnt follow the service manual. I guess most of you already know how but heres how it went easy for me. On the front, the book said remove the cotter pin and pull the pin. I found it easier to unbolt the bracket from the forks to mess with the cotter.
On the rear the book said to loosen the "spindle" nut after getting it on a jack and sliding the axle back enough to free the caliper bracket. Well the pin and clips are easily removed on the disc. So i thought id see how far i could get without taking the axle nut off etc. The pads dropped right out. I used a screwdriver to retract the pistons, slid the new pads in, pinned it and replaced clips..and done.
Well theres at least ONE thing thats simple to do on the r3.

I learned about and did this myself a few months back. The help here HANDS-DOWN saved me a ton of time and trouble. When I go to change out my bride's HD Fat Boy pads; I hope to have a similar experience... but I'm not counting on it.
