Went out to the holding area for the R3T this morning to bring the beautiful beast out for a cleaning and she wouldn't start ......... she grunted a few times but then after a few tries even the grunting came to a stop. I called my brother and he brought his tester over and we tested the battery - it appeared to have enough cranking amps but evidently just not enough for the large lady. So we jumped the battery using my truck and she fired right up - after letting her run for about 15 minutes I shut her down and the rest of the day she came to life without effort. This is the best she has started in probably over a year. So to avoid any such issues in the future I went online and, after reading some advice found right here, I ordered a Scorpion battery. YTX20HL-BS Battery | Scorpion 12 Volt Motorcycle Batteries Looking forward to receiving the replacement sometime this next week - then, after installing the new battery, I can "mount the large lady" and take her for a nice long ride. ;)

I had the same problem last month, just would not start when cold. Being in the UK i could not source a scorpion battery over here, so ended up buying the Motobatt which other captains have been using with no problems..The beast fires straight up now no problems cold or warm...

Last september i had the same problem at an RAA, it was the original battery, i would have to jump it after sitting for a month but after riding it it would charge, as long as i rode it every day or as far as every week it would start, heavy but it would start.
Before my trip to Cali i had the battery checked and they discovered a dead cell so i replaced it, not to bad for an 04 model battery:)

I've done it 6 or 7 times. It's not easy that's for sure. My R3T wont start when it's below 35 to 40. Drives me crazy. Even with a new battery. But with some speed and a pop start, I'm on my way. Did I say it's not easy. These bikes take some speed to push start. Maybe I need to follow the line back and do the cleaning like I've heard...

Had to push-start mine a couple of times at the RDU ... lucky there were 26 other Rocket Owners there to help. Be a prick trying to do it on your own that's for sure !!!

Tried doing the same to mine on the RDU ride to Hervey Bay, after i snapped the clutch lever.
