Bare metal tank

The R3 has a metal gas tank, right?

Has anyone stripped the paint off, sanded the metal to get a brushed look, followed by applying some lacquer to keep the metal from rusting?

What would be the cons, barring aesthetics, of doing this?

Lol...aesthetics are all in the eye of the beholder, no? Besides, the tank would be a part of many other mods.
