Well, I seem to have the same malady so many others have experienced. My 2011 Roadster (with less than 300 miles) started backfiring on the way to work this morning. Backfired twice at low rev during deceleration. Calling the shop when they open to get her over there ASAP.
That's generally associated with a new exhaust or other modification. Is it an actual backfire or a back popping like with a lean condition. It will be interesting to see what the problem is.
Mine does it when I close the throttle during decel because I haven't yet installed the PC3 to compensate for the Jardine exhaust.
No mods, absolutely stock. Backfire vs backpopping? Not sure I know the distinction you are making. I'll use this analogy. When working on a car, have you ever seen a backfire occur up through the air filter? That is what I surmise happened. Felt like it on my butt. Unless it is one of my farts, I generally don't like things exploding around my ass... I'll let you know what A.J. (my Triumph mechanic) says.
Update: Ohhh, back popping. Now I get what you are saying. No, no, it wasn't back popping. Definately backfires.
My Roadster did the same when new. One of the hoses was off the cannister/EPA bull**** under the left sidecover. I put it back on and have no issues in last 6K plus. If you haven't already, I highly recomend you go over your Triumph stem to stern checking nuts, bolts, pulling on wires, etc. I found a lot of things loose or screwed up. And still managed to lose fender and exhaust shield bolts.

Excellent recommendation. I shall do that this weekend. Thanks.
BTW, when I asked my Triumph mechanic (certified Triumph mechanic) what he found he said "I just reprogrammed it, let me know if it does it again". Not entirely satisfactory, but I'll see if it re-occurs.
I assume you're speaking of the Thunder Alley boys?
They didn't impress me as much as the guys in Portland when I was looking for a warranty shop. But since I'm about equidistant between Kennewick and West Portland, my choice was easier than yours. Good luck.
