Back In The Saddle.....well Pretty Soon...

Welcome to the forum Bill, That is good advise from the other Captains, I never test rode a R3 before I got mine, just treat it with respect.......... get used to it and enjoy

thanks for the replies and the support fellas!!

you talked me into it!!

first question..what is a MSF course, and are they available everywhere?

second..whats up with the touchy rear brake? can it be fixed or is it an is what it is type thing?

i normally use alot more front brake than rear..somtimes when putting around i dont even use rear

tought my son toride that way too..now he out brakes most kids on the mx track

the rocket i want is a 2014 roadster

its matte black with matte white racing stripes!!!

understated and subtle, but seriously beastly and beautiful...I love it..

took wife to dealership to look at one and while i was asking sales about them she wandered off like she was almost in a trance

we found her standing next to the rocket..she said "this is the bike you need"

i fell in love with the bike ,and mabey a little more love for the wife right then!!:D

she wouldnt know a motorcycle from a moped but she found her way to that rocket!!!

looks like december ,providing nothing catastrophic happen to dip into my savings

i can hardly restrain myself!!

feel like a litle kid on a car ride to disneyland!!!!!!

First things first - safety gear. See the Michelin Man for the appropriate look. Google images should help you there. Next, buy a Vespa, but not one of the wildly powerful 100cc jobbies, get yourself a sensible 50cc machine and very carefully run the tyres in - they can be slippery right out of the box. Then run that scoot for at least a year, maybe 18 months. Be sure and treat the throttle with respect and judicious use, this way is good for running in the engine but also to make sure you have got the 'staying upright' part of bike riding well sorted. After 12-18 months you may choose to upgrade to a full sized motorcycyle - you could hand the Vespa to your kids who are probably of age??? Your full sized bike should be of no more than 500cc capacity, safety first remember. I would suggest 17 rider safety training courses at this stage of your reintegration into the motorcycling community 'cos you can never be too careful. Put another 12-18 months into this bike, generally honing your roadcraft and maybe towards the end of this time frame you could think about wide open throttle in the first couple of gears - but only for a few seconds at a time, safety, safety, safety! Next step is too...........I'm bored now, buy a Rocket, they're awesome and by implication you will be too

Welcome from downunder, do what all the other blokes have said and you'll be fine :D

The MSF Course is run by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (I think) to teach riders the skills required to ride safely. It is a USA thing, but you didn't say where you are from so I have no idea if you have something similar in which ever country you are from. ;)

The 2014 Roadster has ABS so you won't have to worry too much about locking the rear wheel. However, I suggest practicing using both brakes together as you will stop more efficiently using both (especially if you come to the DarkSide :sneaky: ).

ONCE AGAIN "IVE BEEN RIDING FOR 50 YEARS IM 51 YEARS OLD SHOULD I BUY A ROCKET?"I SAY F*CK NO ITS TO MUCH BIKE FOR YOU OR MOST ALL OF US IT GOES FROM 0 TO 80 WAY TO FAST OR FOR THAT MATTER IT GOES FROM 80 TO 120 IN A BLINK OF THE EYE EVERY TIME YOU STOP TO LET YOURE GUARDIAN ANGEL TO CATCH UP YOU HAVE TO ANSWER ALL KINDS OF QUESTIONS FROM STRANGERS THAT USED TO OR KNEW SOMEONE THAT RODE TRIUMPHS YEARS AGO (MY WORTHLESS OPINION)
