are there govenors?

maybe that answers the question? idk, right now mine is pure stock, not nothing on it, and my face just about on the tank, and maybe the speedo is not accurate at high speeds?

hmmm, not sure how this can be? because yesterday my stock 2017 roadster did 140 at 5000rpm going uphill, and she had more throttle twist still to go (maybe that wouldn't get me any more speed, idk) but since the speedo only goes to 140 i figured why try to go any faster than she can measure. maybe the governor is set to the tach at 6500, but not the speedo? idk, i do know what she did, 140 uphill at 5000

Have you calibrated your speedo? o_O

nope, i'm not a mech and only turn the simplest of wrenches, like adjusting the footpegs or mirrors.

someday i would like to have a real mech install a ramair system and play with all the computer settings, at a minimum increase the low idle speed.

You are getting nice and fast numbers for a stock configuration Roadster. If you want to dwell deeper into the actual speed numbers, you can check the speedometer by having someone drive a car at a set speed (say 70 mph) and drive behind the vehicle at the same speed on your bike while checking your speedometer (most accurate check is to have a GPS and read true ground speed). I think you'll find your indicating 5-10 MPH faster than actual speed. You can simply check your ECU settings with a $20 cable and tune ECU. If you are going to the Barber event in October with your bike, I'll be there Thursday and Friday and am more than happy to bring the equipment to check it for you.
Not sure if the ECU limits top speed by the tachometer (with an RPM corresponding to 120 MPH) or by the speedometer (indicating 120 MPH). I do know the stock tune for the Roadster has a set speed limit of 194 KPH. Maybe the 2017 model Roadsters have the stupid restrictions removed?

someday i'd like to learn all about the computer tuning stuff, but i really wouldn't want to screw it up not knowing any better.

is there a thread herein that goes through this computer setting stuff for a TOTAL newbie, or do you really need to be an advanced user. the one thing i would really like to do is set the low speed idle about maybe 100rpm higher, she does stall out on me every once in a while, even after the Triumph shop (125miles away) did their thing to it. i don't really know if i need a ramair or k&n and fancier muffler system although they do look cool, 140 (or if it was actually lower) is plenty stupid fast for me

A little higher idle will give you better oil pressure when idling, too. Tune ECU is pretty easy, and I'm a non computer guy, aside from browsing the web.

you've got to have some sort of computer-gizmo box, a program for an R3, and a connecting cable for an R3, right? but which?

someday i would like to "open up" her exhaust and make her louder, when that day comes i would need all that. is this a piece of equipment a motorcycle repair guy would have on hand?

You need a laptop or a smartphone and a $25 cable off the internet, TuneECU, the program, is freeware you can download off the internet for free, if you think it's beyond your abilities, you must have a friend who's good with computers that could help.
