ANYONE QUESTION WHY RIII TAKES SUCH HEAVY OIL(15-50)?

I don't want to put that gear oil in my first oil change! I bought 10-40 Mobil 1 Full SYN 4T motorcycle oil to put in it. Has anyone went with anything other than 15w-50 and had any Negative results. Any info welcomed.

Also if you went with thinner oil did gear changing change? Noise/clunky/or stiffer??

since first oil change now @ 14000 miles

Your right the manual says 15w-50 or 10w-40. I 'd have sworn that the dealer said he put 20w-50 in it at the 500 mile mark. Thanks

15w 50 IMO
Would give the bike a litte more
cushion on the gear sets ( thicker ).... and yes
it will make the bike a wee bit slower , but
I'll take long living gears an less micro bits floating
around any day :wink:

Jim, your in a warm climate, run the 15w50 I had over 100K on my Valk and now have about 14k on the Rocket since last June.

Runs great

Oh and don't forget about changing the diff oil. I change that at every oil change

I run amsoil SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil

Costs about $50 after tax and delivery.
