Another tire question

It is way more than just a few millimeters, Amigo!
More like a 30 mm or 1.2 inches difference in the front.
At the rear, the Excedra Max is 24 mm or.9 inch taller than the OEM Metzeler.
This makes for a 54 mm or 2.1 inch differential in the pitch of the bike and will surely affect the handling characteristics.
In this case for the better IMHO!

Hardly a conspiracy. It passed the V tests so can be stamped V rated. I'm told by my tyre place it's NOT uncommon on car tyres for one carcass/compound to be available with differing speed ratings simply because the law is an ass at times.

I get about 230kms out of a tank before the light comes on running at approx 140kph - approx 2 hours non stop. It's dead easy to run for 200kms without a stop - in fact when we drive to the ferry we're at 130ish for th best part of 4 hours non stop in the missus car.

And in Germany I've run for hours at 160 plus on the Autobahns. In a Jag admittedly. I don't use the R3 for short runs - I have the Guzzi for that.

A MotoGP rider is not on street rubber - and I actually picked up alot of info on what the blueing etc means from an AUSSIE track bike site. Most track tyres (I'm told) are designed to run hotter than street tyres.

They have soft, intermediate, hard tyres to choose from - why - well lets see - mainly because different riders wear tyres differently on the same circuit. I've lots of mates here who track race - they change rubber for near every race.

You are indeed correct!
I was wrapped up in the tire differences and
mistakenly calc'd diameter where only radius was needed.
Good catch.

However - a caveat. I have found that individual tyres can VARY and it's worth examining the REAL tyre specs from the mfrs. It's not clear to me why - but I think it's due to TREAD depth. The number refer to the width and sidewall - so if one tyre has 3mm tread and another 11mm - that's 8mm taller - OK that's an extreme example but I've seen a few where there is a 5mm radial difference between what are supposedly identical tyres.
 


Different tires' beads spread onto the wheel a little differently - wheel widths can also vary - air pressure has an affect. All these things can affect the actual aspect ratio and subsequent dims.
Calculated tire measurements are not completely accurate but close enough for our purposes.

well 24 mm is a few mm in my book regardless I like the handling that is all I care at this time
leaving for france next month for 2 months of french food and wine!!
