Another Oil Capacity Question.

Changing the oil on the rocket will 5 quarts get me close to full mark.

No. 5 won't do it. You better get 7 quarts. Sometimes my bike needs 6 and sometimes it needs 6.5 quarts.

@Rockhead I just use 6 quarts every time add the first five cap the tank and start her up for a minute. Shut her down add the 6th quart and ride.

Technically in a oil change it is .27812 liters to much a skosh bit under 3 ounces. but what the heck do you totally drain each quart? to check level start engine up run for a couple minutes so it sucks any oil out of the sump pan and sends it to the tank. Shut bike down hold upright and check the oil.

This is a question in which I have asked before and have gotten different answers. I have used the method that is stated in the service manual and found later on that I was low on oil. Either I didn't understand the method or it just doesn't work. I am one of those that re reads everything so I believe I got the method correct.

What I think causes so much chaos in the proper method is there is a check valve between the oil tank and sump. This gives different readings when the bike is cranked and then shut off numerous times. Warp might can correct me on this.

The method I use to check my oil is crank the bike with of course a safe amount of oil (6 qts) and let it run until at operating temperature. Then with the bike off its stand and still RUNNING using a flash light look into the oil tank. Don't worry oil isn't going to shoot out all over the place when you remove the oil cap. Make sure the oil level is right at the top of the tanks baffle. You will see what I mean by baffle when you use the flash light. As long as the oil level is right at the baffle lip with the bike at operating temperature then you are fine.

I have used this method for over a year and my bike has not suffered any problems or exploded. lol

Mully all Rocket engines have a anti leak down valve in them. Well they are supposed to. I have seen one 05 without one Anyway I they are not installed right you could cut the O-ring so a slight leak down over time could happen. I believe this is why they have you run the motor for a while to empty the excess out of the sump.

I do not get to technical my bike does not use oil so I change it with six and every now and then I pull the dip stick out to make sure oil is on it. The reason it holds more dry then wet is there are galleys you do not drain with a complete oil and filter change. Triumph believes .5 liters.

No the difference between a dry fill and a wet fill is .5 liters. Triumph says 5.9 liters dry with filter and 5.4 liters wet with filter.
