Analogue clock running backwards

Before I take the tank off the bike, can anyone tell me if the analogue clock on the handlebars is wired into the loom under the tank. I have had to disconnect the battery because the clock is running backwards fast. It is, I believe, due to the rain that the bike is sitting in. Typical bank holiday weather. :?
Great electrics on this bike! The alarm goes off constantly when it rains. So I disarm the alarm. Now the bloody clock! :shock:
What next? :evil:
 
I would say that it is

My alarm went off all the time after a wash , lifted the tank and soaked the connectors with WD 40 , has never done it since , and its been probably 18 months
 
You're not driving it fast enough. :twisted: Mine experienced "no speedo" after blow drying it w/leaf blower. A good hot run & some time brought things back to normal. I'm gonna' request dealership spray good stuff in connectors while they have it all aprt for crash repairs. Hope your's is onlt a water thing and drying out fixes it, too.
 
Cheers folks! It is a problem that only occurs with the old H2o. I think it runs down the plastic frame shield at the front of the tank and soaks everything in its way. I will do as you recommended, if it ever stops raining! :(
 
Hi Mike the rock. I have the triumph analogue clock fitted on my rocket from new, at about the 6 month mark i started it one morning(the day after i washed the bike) and noticed the hands on the clock spinning like a fan it stoped and i reset the time seemd ok till the next time i washed the bike when i started the bike up after washing it the hands spun stoped spun stoped then blew a fuse so you are on the right track with the H2O causing the problame. i decided to remove my clock from the handle bars to drop into the dealer insted of leaving the bike with them, was easy as just undo the one bolt at the front of the tank (also remove the bear claw so it clears the air box 2 bolts) tilt the tank up the wires just plug into a clip on the loom under the tank once off i decided to take a closer look at the clock itself and i think you will have the same prolbame i did. water runs down the back of the clock housing and inside the gap at the bottom of it when washed or ridden in rain this then sits in the well at the bottom of the clock housing where the little circuit board is to adjust the time ect the contacts on mine where coverd in corossion i took the clock to the dealer and told them what i suspected the prolbame was, triumph replaced with a new clock i guess just cleaning the contacts may have worked but i didnt want to tamper with it and void the warrenty i now put a plastic bag over the clock when i wash the bike. also have datatool alarm but no prolbames with it. i hope this helps you out.
 
I have also had the clock off the bars and dismantled. I realised the push button terminals were damp so I cleaned and sprayed them (WD40). I also saw the same as you and I drilled a small drain hole in the bottom of the out casing while it was on the bike, so that it was at BDC. You can feel the hole but unless you bend right down and look for it you would never know.

Another thing I did was while the tank was up, I gunned some silicone sealant along the back edge of the plastics that cover the neck of the frame and pass under the front of the tank. When the tank is down it is not visible . The theory is that rain that lands on the plastics, runs down and back, under the tank. When it gets to the silicone it is diverted left and right to run away safely.

I also cut a large square plastic water bottle up, This I kept cutting and trimming till it fitted up into the inner shape of the frame under the previously mentioned plastics under the tank. If water gets in there and shorts the electrics now, I will Torch the f**kin bike! :evil: I think this has cured all my alarm and clock problems for now. :wink: I will keep you posted 8)
