El Toro Rosso
Supercharged
I've got one of the glass bottles with it's metal cap / nozzle from those bygone days. I remember my father buying oil in those containers when I was young, and I salvaged one from his "estate."
I've got a couple of the old pour spouts that were pressed into the top of the old cans to allow for easy pouring.
When I worked in a motorcycle dealership over 45 years ago, we got the oil in 50 gallon drums from the oil distributor. They included a hand crank pump which was used to fill metal pitchers to take the oil to the engine being serviced. We had drums of oil from Kendell, as well as from Castrol. Old oil was poured into the recycled oil barrel, and was picked up by the oil distributor on a regular basis.
Nowadays, I just use whatever the manufacturer recommends. The most exotic oil I had to buy was the 10W60 full synthetic AGIP which was required by Moto Guzzi. That was hard to find, and I ended up buying a case of it from the distributor in Connecticut. Love that 6 legged dog logo, but it was mighty pricey stuff. I used Mobil 1 for Triumphs when they recommended Mobil 1, and now I use the Castrol product that replaced it in their recommendation. I've never noticed any problems with shifting, burning, fuel economy, etc., as long as the manufacturer's recommendations were followed. Of course, if you follow these oil discussions on the internet, there are always huge differences to be reported on point or another. The cost of oil per mile is quite small, regardless of what type of oil you use, so I've never fully understood the interest in this debate.
