Something has just come into my head..If Synthetic oil is Synthetic, how come while the price of mineral oil is going up in price.

Why is it that Synthetic oil goes up at the same rate???

Actually, gasoline is the by-product. Diesel has more thermal energy per unit volume than gasoline. In the last part of the ninteenth century the oil producers used to burn the gasoline as a waste product coming from the cracking towers. Then some genius figured a way of using it in engines and they began selling it for pennies a gallon. Heating oil was the big ticket item in those days.
