What you have circle there is the air temp sensor I believe people who go with tripple K&N filters buy a little filter to go over it. I have heard od a couple who have drilled a hole in the middle filter and siliconed it into it for a mor eaccurate reading. the one next to it is the 1 bar map sensor.
If you look in the how to section you'll find a good one on the filters.
 
Yeah not the greatest place to leave the temp sensor, it will be cooking from the motor heat. ( reading much hottter than the air your filters are actually sucking in.) This might lean out the fueling. The little filter ( I forget the item code) protects the sensor & can be cable tied next to the filters.
 
Those little filters aren't cheap either (if I recall).
