A Manly (and inexpensive) Horn Upgrade

Paul, them things are loud!!! You can not hear the factory horn anymore, highly recome d it, but you have to get rhe rivco harness, i have a spare low to e if you want it, that way you need to get the low only. For some reason they sent me : instead of 2

That's funny. When I ordered my pair, they sent me two high-note Magnums (I guess you ended up with the extra low-note from my pair). When I contacted them, they were very apologetic, sent me a low horn immediately, and said to just keep the extra high-note horn.

I just installed the spare high-note on my FJR1300 in place of one of the two stock horns. Sounds much better than before.

As far as the wiring goes, I've never bought a commercially-made harness for the 4-5 times I've done higher amp horn upgrades. If you have a basic understanding of auto/MC electrical, it's pretty easy to wire these up using a Bosch-type relay and some 12 gauge wire with an inline fuse on the line between the battery and the relay. The real challenge can be connecting the horns well to a good ground.

You are right Judge, the best place i found for ground was an engine mount bolt on the chrome tube just below the shifter, since there are 3 of them i figured the engine would be safe if i losen one to put a ground connection and thighten it back, i will post some pics soon, just don't laugh at the location where i put them:D

Ok, this is the only place that i found so far, the problem is that the horns have to be "free standing" and be able to "move" in order to vibrate and get the full sound out of them.
they sugest not to touch each other or anything else, they seem kinda flemsy to the touch but they are LOUD!!!
i wonder how many people has them "thight" to their vehicles killing half of their sound:D
I know some guys will say it looks ugly but i don't give a sh!t:D

Yep.....ugly! Stuff hanging off the side of the bike just doesn't do it for me. We each do what we think is best and there is NO disrespect intended!
I think I am a slave to looks so I have had a hard time thinking about just where to put new horns. It is amazing to me how few options there are on the R3 for a cosmetic solution!:(

Zen, the best place people have found for their horna is where the original horn is, the only problem is that they have to be facing forward , if you get caught in rain you will be scouping water, not to mention insects, when you find a good place for them let me know, i walked around the bike 50 times looking for a good place to install them, couldn't find one, now the more i look at them the uglier they get:D

My first Stebel got ruined by rain. I just remounted the new one in the same place (where the original was) only now facing backwards to keep the water out. Surprisingly it sounds just as loud facing the wrong way.
