Question #1: I'd like to install a GPS and/or a radar detector on my bike. The GPS came with a cigarette lighter hook-up and it looks as if all the detectors have the same thing, unless they're wireless or set up for direct wiring.
I'd prefer to use the accessory hook-up on the left side of my '07 R3. The question is, is there an adapter that will fit the R3's cord for either one or two accessories.
Question #2: What kind of a plug is that on the accessory hook-up? I'm very weak on my classification talents, so please forgive me for not being more specific. Any info would be appreciated.
 
Jimmyjet, I installed a 12v accessory adapter directly to my battery. I used this setup when I was running a GPS (Garmin 550c) on my trip to Nashville last July. I installed a ram mount on my left side handlebar.

I placed the 12v accessory socket behind the panel where the Triumph "BMW" powerlet socket would normally be installed. I then ran the 12v accessory cable for the Garmin from this socket up underneath the gas tank and tied it to the handlebar on the left side by the ram mount. It worked okay, but the ball set up for the ram mount was kind of "shallow" and didn't fit into the back of the Garmin socket receptacle as good as I would have liked. Hopefully your mount will be better suited for your unit.

In addition, as a side note, the new 2008 Tourer model has an optional GPS cable that can be mounted directly to the battery, not sure what type of plug at the end of it or what GPS unit it is designed for.

As Molinoman refers to, the powerlet is not your standard "cigarette" lighter we're accustomed to here in the States. A dual adapter can be had to work with the Powerlet. It'll cost in the neighborhood of two powerlet adapters or once again the price of the oem powerlet you got lead to. Be sure the dual accessory adapter doesn't provide you with another two powerlet plugs That would be the shiznits. It's too bad dealers don't advise you of the difference. It must be a profit motive.

Thanks for the info concerning the elect. adapters for the R3. Now I know which end is up and right from left. Perhaps with a little more assistance, I'll finally know Jack****. Thnx, Bro's.
 
Pig9R, I noticed in the one photo that you said the power outlet was powered even when the bike is shut off...I wonder if that is why I may have had some battery starting issues over the winter.

Yes it is powered all of the time, and if you had something plugged into it I would suspect it would drain the battery. I made a cord for my battery tender that has a cigarette lighter plug on it and that's how I charge my battery.
