A General Question About our Rocket 3's

Nearly 100,000klms on my RIII since i purchased it new in January 2009. Not been without it's issues , certainly not experienced anywhere near all those you listed. I don't want or need any other bike .. i love my Rocket .

Here we go again. It's a machine for f#ck sake so of course it will have quirks and issues. And shock horror, there might even be the odd lemon.

Show me one piece of machinery anywhere that hasn't had some problems. If you want something that won't ever give you trouble, buy a rock and ride that. Jim tried it and I'll bet my home that it never broke down and was real cheap to run. Probably not much fun though.

I'm sorry, but jeez.

Some kid came and pushed me off it and said it was his rock, and that if he ever caught me near that playground again he was gonna clock me............

Yeah,,,sounds worse than it really is..

Try to remember that few people post telling us how FEW problems they have had. What you normally see on ANY forum are the problems. Before I bought my 08 I researched the forums, talked to current owners and came away with a good feeling about the Rocket. One that sticks in my mind was a Craigslist posting down near Jacksonville fla. I talked to the owner, asking why he was getting rid of it and why the price was low. He had it posted as "high mileage",,,and it was,,this was 115k miles on a 2006....and he wanted to go to a touring model like the one I eventually ended up with. In those miles he had only had normal maintenance done and a bevel box replace which he admitted was his fault. Like I said, we hear the most about the problem children,,so keep in mind there are hundreds out there with a perfect or near perfect track record.

One thing that keeps coming up lately though is the 09 and newer models,,,whats up with them???? Is there something specific that makes them such lemons or is it just the small things and poor quality control? Makes me glad mine is an 08

Great posts from Warp and everyone. My 2004 (early 2005) has 74K miles on it. It runs GREAT. I run it hard at times, long trips others and mostly commute a 70 mile round trip back and forth to work. I swear, it feels stronger now than ever.. but it dynoed the same 140HP/142 lbs/ft last summer that it did several years ago. Maybe it revs easier because it's getting broke in.. lol

I do have one problem right now that I am convinced is the torsion springs in the clutch basket, thanks to pics Warp posted for me on the other site. Due to being hard on my bike on occaision, playing with ZX-14s and stuff, I am not upset with the bike at all. And it doesn't look catastrophic so I'm not worried about riding.. just won't be messing with fast bikes off the line for the moment.

I AM upset with myself because I just replaced the clutch plates/springs and was literally ONE nut away from pulling the clutch basket while I was in there!!!!!!!. I am going to check the rear drive cushions here soon just to be sure that isn't the problem. Then later on, I will go back in and check and see if my clutch basket matches his pics.

I will be honest, I actually think of selling it from time to time. The miles are high, but it runs so good and nothing compares to it. I even sat on a Roadster about a month ago, and didn't like it compared to mine. It sat too tall and the pegs were too close.. lol Guess my body is just conformed to my Rocket.. lol

I do want to lower mine for looks, but I am running Triumph's 'Comfort' shocks and they work so good.
