I left the rubber boot off, as per their suggestion. The waterproof demo with the glass of water is pretty impressive - at least it is to me.

i left the boot off initially too, coz its a bit of work to get it on, but came out to find moisture had gathered on the inside of the lens one day so went about putting the boot on then.
i winged them on a pic by email to ask if this rubber boot insulation on the bit between the fan and the 'bulb' section would cause whatever the fan is supposed to be cooling to overheat. they said it'll be fine with the boot on.
