2012 Roadster quits on decel

Okay, I have a few questions before ordering the Eastern Beaver mod...

First, do I need it on a 2012 Roadster? I've read a few comments that lead me to believe the Roadster's have a relay from Triumph installed. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also, I've already had an issue I plan to talk to the dealer about at my 600 mile service. The motor has died 4 times when slowing down and pulling the clutch. Just completely dies like the throttle's been cut. Didn't know if this is already the ignition issue showing up or what I might be in for.


I plan to go with the Lo-Cut Beaver if I need one and had a few questions.

First - where do people mount the switch? I would love to use a rocker switch with LED lights just for a cool effect but don't know where would be the best place to mount. Haven't had any luck finding it discussed with photos at this point.

Also, the reason I want the Lo-Cut is so I can ride the bike in parades for Christmas, etc... They are always held at night time and you can NOT run your headlights. All of the other bikers in town have to tape up their headlights or pull the fuses. Would this switch not provide the ability to just leave the headlights off?

Do not know about the beaver kit but you can easily remove a fuse to leave your headlights off

I have a 2011 Roadster which had factory upgrade relay fitted by the dealer, I am not exactly certain what the relay does but it is similar to the EB kit but not a full 100% headlight relay like the EB kit is.

I believe the 2012 Roadster already has the relay upgrade fitted from the factory.

I doubt the ignition switch is going to go out on your 2012 Roadster any time soon. Mine is a 2004 and I still have the original ignition switch. I know there have been some who have had an issue, but it's not as wide spread as the forums make it sound. If it does, you're under warranty for 2 more years..

The Eastern Beaver thing is just a relay, I don't think it gives you the ability to turn your lights off.

Your stalling problem sounds like a tune problem.. Your dealer can probably resolve it with a tune re-load and TPS reset..

beaver kit

I followed previous posts on Beaver Kit and used it to modify my stock lights electrical path.
The kit was easy to install . Bike starts easier now!. I'm not a Rocket Bike genius so I'll depart and let the people in the know jump up to the plates!!

after buying the eastern beaver kit and PC8 board I mounted the PC8 on the left behind the center cover then drilled a hole further back in the black plastic about an inch from the edge of metal cover this way it is out of the sight from passerby , reachable when in the saddle and I left the amber lights in the headlights so I can ride in parade without worries you can find the pictures of the arrangement somewhere on this site

I haven't checked but I recall that there are a couple of EB kits; one which is just the relays and the other which allows you also to switch off the head lights. If I was mounting a switch I'd probably aim for the blank on the left side triangle (plastic) panel where you can relocate the ignition switch to. You can reach that quite easily from the seat. Or I'd look at what Albertaduke did.

As to whether you need the EB kit on a Roadster, I understand that the upgrade routes the lights through a single relay (whereas the EB kit has one for hi and one for low beam - or something) and the current to the lights still goes through the ignition switch. Hanso explained it somewhere on here. Therefore the upgrade on the Roadster doesn't completely eliminate the potential for ignition switch problems.

Just had my 2011 roadster in for the recall relay kit install. I watched the tech and all he did was pop the seat off and wire in the relay. I haven't looked at what he added but the install was only a 20 min. job.

Thanks everyone. I've racked up close to a 1000 miles on the bike and haven't had the problem again - thinking it may be new engine break-in related????

Sounds like I need to do the beaver mod just to eliminate the possibility and so I can run in parades without my headlights.

Bikes going in sometime next week for the 600 mile service. I'll bring it up to the dealer at that time.
