I have used Helicoil on several applications. Especially on stripped out aluminum threads. The steel coils add considerable strength to the fasteners. You can also look at Time-Serts as another option. They are stronger and longer lasting for applications where you will remove and reinsert the fasteners with higher torque requirements.

As I mentioned previously, the damaged thread needs enough material (edge distance) to properly install a Helicoil.

Since this is a control, don’t fk around with a shady repair. As Scott @warp9.9 mentioned, take it to a pro if you are uncertain of your ability to do the repair.

Just my take. If nothing else, you’ll learn how to install a Helicoil!

I just installed three helicoils on the front fender bolt sets on an old Honda project. Took about 15 minutes. A good kit will come with the appropriate size drill bit, a number of coils, and the plastic set tool.
