Also having a heritage from that miserable cold place where the snow falls sideways .... I always go the Laddies .....though they don't put the second "d" in the word to save paint.
Blokes is the collective for Australians ... can be of either gender .... though in posh circles, one might address a group as Blokes and Sheilas, Chicks or others (will usually get you in trouble). Or you might start a speech with "Jeez you blokes .... you were meant to bring your better halves, but you have all brought your daughters".
Australian etiquette is sometimes very difficult to understand.
