Why are people selling their Rockets?

I don’t know, I’ve had mine since 2004…

I had an 05 that I loved. I put 40k miles on that thing but after having a TPS fail out of state I realized the problem with touring on these bikes. I put 60k miles on a couple of Harleys and they had their problems too, but I never spent more than a half day down, even on the road, because they have dealers everywhere and they all stock parts.
I tried to convince myself that I was getting older and it was time to get a toy car instead. I built a ridiculous car that is legitimately cooler than the R3, but it never brought me the same joy as motorcycles. After 3 years off of bikes a local racer offered me a lot of cash for my car and within 24 hours I had found the perfect R3 gt about 4 hours away and had made plans to go get it.
Why I sold and a bonus why I am back. lol

I had 2004 R111 in 08 and owned it for 10 years, even had the motor upgraded to black engine spec. In 2018 I decided it was getting a bit weighty for my knackered knees and went for a 1700 Thunderbird Storm.
Fabulous machine, really chuckable, comfy, quite quick. But….
There was something missing, so sold that and brought a Yamaha Royal Star 1300 Venture. Unbelievably comfortable, for a bike its size handled extremely well.
And there’s that But again!
Once you’ve experienced the pure brute power of a Rocket 111…….
Last December, bit the bullet and brought a 2010 registered Classic, trading the Yamaha in on it. Oh God that powered addictive, enhanced by sticking it on a rolling road and getting rid of all of Triumphs restrictions. LOVE IT!!

I purchased my 2006 Rocket III new in August 2007. Got a sweet deal on it. $5,000 off list price. I decided then and there this will be a forever bike. It will become my children's burden. After all the mods I have made to it. I'm not selling. Yes the 2.5 liter GT does call to me. I have the GT we are taking to Bonneville on August 4th to make another Land Speed Record in my garage right now. Yes it is nice. Yes it is calling to me really loud. I just purchased a used. but practically brand new/ 2022 Bonneville T120. I am retiring in 2 weeks, so my income is going to drop $12,000 a month. Time to start living on a budget.

I loved my 06 standard, a snap of the throttle and the bike felt like it would hop, With the luggage rack and side bags I could carry enough for a long weekend for my wife and myself. I traded it because the wind would curl around me and pound the hell out or her and shifting into firsy started sounding like a hammer hitting an anvil, I got concerned and traded it for a k1600 gtl. I bought into the KTM 1290 to satisfy the craving for endless torque the R3 left me with and like many old model owners I miss the standard platform of the old model we could turn into what I wanted.

With ref to what you were saying about the old model, I personally and a few others agree with me, I really feel Triumph are missing out on a trick.
Yes the R3 GT & R are fabulous machines, but they’re not two up tourers.
A few years ago I had the intention of getting a 2 generation, but the long haired boss, took one look at the amount of space, seat size and crucially the rear foot pegs. And very politely said “Not a hope am I getting on that!” Too small a seat, pegs too high and backrest far too low and narrow.
If they could built a new tourer, using the new engine and running gear, but making it more spacious like the old Classic/Roadster (not the Tourer), I think Triumph would be onto a winner.

I still stand by the idea that I want them to make a bike just like the Indian Roadmaster but put the Rocket 3 engine in it. You would then have a bike which would really challenge the Goldwing.
Agree with something along those lines, but sorry that Indian looks like someone hit it with the ugly stick! I’m sure Triumph could come up with something more stylish. To be honest, I’m not a great fan of what you over the pond call Baggers, everyone I’ve ridden just feels too top heavy.
With my Classic, I’ve got two bikes in one. It came with touring screen, Triumph leather panniers and I picked up a similar styled top leather bag. Half hours work, taking it all off, I’ve got a naked cruiser.

I have a RM too and I’ve always said the new Rocket motor in the RM would be the penultimate bike.
