Just brought home my new 2012 Touring. Extremely difficult to find neutral. And on those rare occasions that I can find it, I have to disengage the clutch and then reengage it in order to shift out of neutral. Is this typical of a new Rocket?

This is a aggravation with most all of the rockets you will learn the technique in a little while I still have to play with the shifter to get it in neutral and I have the heel toe shifter not sure which one they put on the tour

I don't know, I always pull my clutch before putting it in gear. Seems to save wear and tear on the engine and doesn't leap into the weeds that way. :D

Or did you mean with the engine off.......................

Here's what I meant. With the clutch pulled in, I put it in neutral. Then, with the clutch still pulled in, it won't go into gear. I have to first release the clutch and pull in back in in order to switch out of neutral. All this with the engine on.

I have the heel toe shifter. I've had Harleys so I'm used to having difficulty finding neutral. But with my Tbird and Bonneville it was never a problem, in fact it was quite easy.

I also had the problem on my new 2012 roadster. with break-in it's gotten easier and not has difficult.

That said, if you don't let the clutch out before putting back into first - it will still not lock into gear securely and jump out if you try to take off. I've learned to deal with it...

Thunderbird doesn't have the same issue

i see on another post you have put risers on,have you checked you still have 3mm play in the clutch at the lever? its very sensitive on mine.i must have the play or shifting becomes notchy....

My 2011 Roaster, now with 9500km has never been a problem but the going into gear certainly did improve after the first oil change with Motul 300V 15/40.

Adjustment is critical. In addition, three things have made neutral difficult to find on mine at various times.

1. When I put Iso grips on I found I couldn't pull the level in quite as far (because they're thicker). Adjustment needed.

2. Gear linkage. Check that the threaded ball joint bolt connecting the lever to the actuator is tight. I got sick of mine working its way out so put a little loctite on it and also have a cable tie holding it in place.

3. Frayed clutch cable - on mine it was the end inside the lever. Replaced cable.
