yep what canberra said.

had a similar issue when i changed things a bit. i found when it was adjusted correctly it was perfect. if your dealer is similar to mine, id recommend not relying on them to get it right.

Mines the same Its just a big heavy duty g/box guys, it gets Hot in there and things expand and tighten up... you cant really compare with other bikes its something you need to manage and learn a few tricks ..

Like when your stationary in first or second put a little weight on the lever and ease the clutch out to rock the bike and it pops into N, the other thing I learned is to select N just before stopping and dropping ya feet.

Keep the clutch cable clearance adjusted... Its a pain I know but thats the price of the Power and torque you lay down on the runway :D

Just a Small inconvenience ;) but check the Grin in the Mirror

Just brought home my new 2012 Touring. Extremely difficult to find neutral. And on those rare occasions that I can find it, I have to disengage the clutch and then reengage it in order to shift out of neutral. Is this typical of a new Rocket?

i have a 2010 R3T and have difficulty finding neutral too.
It gets easier after a while.
What I do is, with engine running, ride for about 50 feet downshifting to first. then stop and click up lightly into neutral.
Works every time.

Straight cut, heavy duty transmission gears and gear whine. No extra charge!

The Rocket has straight cut transmission gears and is very noisy and tight shifting for the first 1,000 miles or so. I did not test ride mine before I made the purchase, as it had not been set up yet. (Just the way I like to buy my new bikes!) So on the 130 mile ride home I started to think I had transmission problems. I mean first and second gear whined so much, the transmission sounded like an old "Granny low" manual truck transmission from your Grandfathers' era! Yea! That bad! And I came off a Harley to boot!

Well around 1,000 miles the whine went away and the shifting became easier. Not as quiet as my Honda ST1300, but quieter. The loud Harley like "Clunk" when up and down shifting is normal with the Rocket also! Anyone who thinks Harleys have noisy transmissions should ride a Rocket one time!!!

Just understand one thing. The transmission and engine both share the same oil and oil filter. Make sure you change out the oil and filter no later than 500 miles. (The sooner the better) While doing so, take a look at the nice, silvery colored metal particles in the oil. That's your transmission gears and such wearing in!

Neutral will take some time getting used to, but it will get easier as time goes on also. I use Mobile One M/C oil and a Mobile One automotive oil filter, P/N 110. Use what you want, but I highly recommend you use Synthetic oil at the very least!

Also, change out your final drive gear oil at the same time. It will be super dirty for the first couple of changes. You will also notice a lot of gummy, silvery metal material in the final gear oil. Just part of owning a Rocket! I use Mobile One Synthetic gear oil there also. Have fun and enjoy your new ride! :D

So much for problems finding neutral. Put a couple of hundred miles on today and now it falls into neutral very easily. Love the bike.
