This bike is only 45 lbs lighter (6%) than the Rocket (wet) but has 39% less HP. I don't get it.

It also cost $2400 less than a standard Rocket. Add $800 for the ABS model. Not to mention it's a good looking bike. I'm not about to switch from the Rocket but I can see the appeal of the Thunderbird.

Some people may be turned off by 2300cc of pure hotness, not everyone likes bigger girls! :D

All I care about is power and comfort. Ideally, Triumph would put a Busa engine into a Bonneville frame.

Sound could be another reason. You cant get that thump, thump sound like a VTwin. Not sure how the parallel compares to twins but the triple can never have that and some people want it. I know people who have bought hardleys just for the sound and nothing else. So maybe theres a market. Any sound bytes around for the bird yet?

Aw right Flip,
you know I've been waitting on the T-bird,
but it ain't cause I like to go slow,
I personally think it would be better for the wife to ride than that H-D sittin out there.
I hate even sittin on it anymore.
The other day she went for a ride,
I was working on my fender or sissy bar or somethin, I forget what exactly.
she comes back and leaves it parked outside, and asked me to pull it in for her and lock it up when I'm done playin.
I did, but man, it sucks. Twenty feet on it was more than enough.
yea, I think "she" needs a new Thunderbird.
The rocket is just intimidating to her for some reason.

I agree Triumph should only have one model the Rocket after all it is the best selling bike in the world, only kidding the Tbird is not designed to compete with the Rocket, hopefully Triumph has learned from the past and stay ahead of the times if not history shall repeat its self.:D

Something in the sound

Some truth to something in the sound, especially us old-school guys who had Bonnevilles with drilled-out mufflers.

To each his own; I never judge what floats your boat. If you love how a Rocket sounds, that's great.

But when I first heard a Rocket, I was very disappointed. No thump at all. It looked like a beast, but to me, sounded like 1960s' Corvair.

Maybe the T-Bird will be quick in the canyon, power up the mountains, and have some thump to wake up the SUV driver about to drift into your lane.
