OK, I've read a bunch. I burned through my last set of Metz in nothing flat and am looking to replace both front and rear. The dark side sounds like the way to go but I would like to hear experienced recommendations for both front and rear. Please post the exact tire, size, and pressure that you would recommend for both. - Thanks!

Here we go again :D Metzler bashing time .. oh well must have been at least a month since we went down this well-travelled track :D

I know this is the Darkside forum, and I have no answer to the question posed. There at least a couple of R3T riders here with car tires and I'm sure they will offer an opinion.

But one thing I always wonder when people talk about the rapid wear of MC tires on the Rocket is what kind of bike they rode before the R3. Since this is my first cruiser, I'm overjoyed with the Metzler mileage which for me works out to be around 10K. I got a around 8K from Avons.

Before the R3T I used to replace tires somewhere between 3 and 6 months and was very happy if I could get 5K from a set. Often it was more like 3-4K. Am I just getting a lot more mileage from my tires than most, or do cruiser riders just expect much higher mileage than sport bikes and sport tourers?

I'm just over 7000 miles on my metz's and they have lots of life left. So I dont think its you but maybe riding style?....I dont do burnouts or try to corner hard and touch pegs or hard accell off the line (not much anyways :D)....so I honestly am not sure...I can say the roads up here are pretty good and smooth so that could contribute as well....I think temperature could have a play as well. Pretty mild in Central New York most of the time..........

Yeah, there are a lot of variables involved. Heat is a big one. I used to ride a lot more in the summer than I do now. The combination of the heat from the R3 plus me getting older makes it a lot less fun than it used to be. Plus, its 116 today, I couldn't take that 10 years ago! Speed is another big factor. On sportier bikes I'd run at higher speeds than I do on the R3T. It can do bigger speeds, but for me the riding position just seems to result in slower speeds.

But, lets hear from some of you darkside guys, give this fella some suggestions.

i have a 08r3t before i went darkside i would get bout 11-12k from the rear and bout 15-17k on the front with metz am getting ready to change my front tire in bout a week and i am going to try the avon cobre 150-80-16 i have been pleased with the metz but figure i would try a defferent one this time

Yep, here we go again.

1. On the Touring, Metz seems like a reasonable choice for MC, based on feedback from some members. Others prefer Avon or Dunlop or.............

2. If you're prepared to put a car tyre on your bike then there's plenty to choose from and LOTS of discussion on this site of brands, characteristics to look for, pros and cons and tips for getting the right pressure - some objective but mostly pretty subjective.
