What is DTC

I have just had my 20,000 mile service, on reading through the service schedule I see that every service asks for "Engine ECM - check for stored DTC". Can you please explain to an idiot what this means & can it be done using Tune ECU, & of course if so then how. My intention is to now have future servicing done by a friend of mine but he does not have the equipment to check the electronics, I do have Tune ECU which he can use but I lack the understanding of the diagnostics. I am sure that when he sees it, it will make sense to him if not to me but what is DTC in this regard.

DTC's, are Diagnostic Trouble Codes. They're the codes your ECU stores when it encounters a problem. TuneECU should also be able to read and clear them.

In case you should have a check engine light come on and a stored DTC, you can see the code with a diagnostic OBDII reader and look it up in the service manual. The readers are inexpensive and available at places like Harbor Freight and some parts stores. They just plug into the OBDII plug under the seat (under dash in cars) and interrogate the ECM for trouble codes, the can also erase the stored codes and turn off the check engine light. You don't have to have the fancy and expensive Triumph tool to just read and erase the stored codes.

A VERY handy tool to have these days.

Thanks guys, I see in Tune ECU under ECU there is an option to "erase error codes", I assume this is is how to delete the DTC's but I see nowhere that will display the errors in the first place. I will have to experiment & see what I can find.

TuneECU displays the Codes and their descriptions in the bottom bar of the diagnostics page.

yeah the first thing I did was to properly balance the throttle butterflys (if you have triple K&N's) the triumph tool only gives a close enought is good enought adjustment reading, I like it exact!!
