Went down with the bike yesterday....

ATGATT never fails to work, glad you are okay as said bikes can be replaced in fact for $4500 you can have a brand new second hand 67000 mile 2005 std:D now what happened I know you said the guy braked hard which does cause the old pucker reaction, were you riding to close or any thing distracting you, was swerving out of the question? just trying to help this from happening to anyone else.
Great choice on the full face helmet makes me shiver when I see people ride without one.

I could offer some mitigating reasons why I hit the car but in the end, I should've given more room. the vehicle was a lifted jeep which prevented me from seeing thru the glass work on what was happening ahead. apparently a police car about 10 cars up lit up it's flashers to pull someone over causing everyone to hit their brakes just out of reaction. if i'd been farther back, none of this would've happened.
I have released the bike to the insurance adjuster and hope to hear soon what their decision is regarding totaled or repairable. i'm guessing it'll be totaled and then i'll have to decide to give it up or take a payout and fix 'er myself. i'm leaning toward fixing, love this bike and won't be able to replace it with the payout i'm sure.
for reference, I paid 6k for the bike a couple months ago. it had 14.5 miles on it, in great shape except no maintenance efforts which I've been addressing since. keep yer fingers and toes crossed for me they deem it repairable......

Good on you for recognising the fact you may have been too close etc...it will help you in another similar situation for sure...we all have had a similar scenario havnt we?...it dosnt take much for things to turn to brown stuff when vehicles start stopping suddenly out of the blue in front of you...especially if there is a bit of speed involved....glad youre not too smacked up..

Sorry about the bike but thankful you were not tenderized to the max. My wife and I were talking about gear the other day and how it just isn't worth the risk to go unprotected. Just the dental work alone would be daunting without a full face helmet. Hope you can find a replacement R3 soon and make it your own again!

some of you may have picked up on this in my initial post but in case you didn't....
I was wearing an armored mesh jacket (joe rocket). fit well, shoulders, back, and elbow protection.
all good til I was sliding down the asphalt. no abrasion protection from the mesh material.
I have LOVED this jacket as it feels like it magically cools the air as it blows thru the jacket but
I will not replace it with another due to the road rash on my right forearm.
I know i'm fresh off the accident but only leather jackets from now on (I have 3, all armored).
if it's too hot to wear leather, then it'll be too hot to ride.
after working for 3 days on my feet since the accident I found out today my right ankle is fractured.
I thought it was a sprain, my bad!
doc says it's not severe and i'm wearing a boot, not a cast.
i'm a very lucky gent.......and still attractive!
