IDK - am I understanding you correctly -I realise that TuneEcu can check the throttle body balance, bit can it 'correct' it?

No problem Mike, sorry it took so long for me to answer but I must pead idiot when it comes to computers. It took me quite a while to figure out the message was on my board and not a PM. I have been going thru all my pm's looking for the one I did not read and then found it on the board

Tune Boy and Tune ECU is what you use to balance the throttle bodies. The only other way is old school with vacuum guages. Thats the way I balance mine as I do not use the map sensor and L-tables in my map. Maybe some day I will now that I lowerd the boost to 1 bar.. But hell I figure why mess with whats working, and I am thinking of adding some more boost ot her to pep things up a but

Ah .... yes I have read that thread in great detail many times, but I thought you meant that somehow the TuneEcu software could adjust the balance without me having to physically turn any screws. My conclusions from the very long thread are that for anyone with a bike within warranty (ie with normal air filters) the task is a nightmare, and even if they were to strip the bike, there is some doubt about whether balancing the throttles in that stripped down condition makes any sense. People have found a way of adjusting one of the screws in situ but not the other. And Triumph's idea of balancing the throttles is a joke.
Is this a fair synopsis?

retorquing the engine didn't work today. I asked the dealer to check the TB balance. The engineer said that the readings he got were (something like) 515,518 and 519 so everything was OK. I find that interesting because if I am reading these posts correctly the Triumph tool does not give specific numbers but just tells the engineer whether it's in spec or not. He also told me that even if he'd got readings that were out of spec he wouldn't have adjusted the TBs - he would have looked for the 'cause'. Go figure.
So I still have my vibration at 4000rpm. I think I will take it to a guy I know with a dyno and see what is going on at that rpm.

I think I would still hook tune boy up and see if the numbers are anywhere close to what he stated. If not well we need to find out what he has been smoking. I can understand looking for why they are not balanced before changing things. Is is a vacuum measurement so things like a bent valve whiped rings, holes in piston blownhead gasket ,cam timing could through them off if not the only way for them to be not balanced would be the need to be adjusted.

Warp - I've done them twice with Tuneecu now and at idle I have had 610, 645, 610. I checked them at the problem 4000rpm and they seemed all about 475 but the needles were dancing about a bit.

I have asked them to confirm by email that they checked the TBs and they were within spec. I will ask a different dealer to check them and if they are not in spec according to Triumph's own diagnostic tool, then I will be taking it up with the supplying dealer.

I just don't really understand why so many are reluctant to bring their bikes back to the DEALER! Christ!..you paid them handsomely for the bike and they have the responsibility to make it right!
If they cannot...get in touch with Triumph America and COMPLAIN!! This vibration is NOT acceptable so DO NOT accept it! There are so many possible causes and you should not put yourself in the position of having to figure out the problem. New items carry an implicit warranty of proper functioning in the US and if the dealer cannot fix the bike...sue that dealer! A simple lawyers letter will get them to respond!
Just don't let that dealer off the hook!

I would agree with you Zen if the problem was a deal breaker (ie the bike won't go), but it's an irritation, not a huge problem, and if the dealer genuinely doesn't know what is causing it, then apart from the hundred mile ride (plus pickup) there and back, I might be without the bike for a couple of weeks while they try to trace it.
Having said that I will have use of another bike in September so might let them have the R3 for a while then.
