hey you smart guys, isn't the 02 sensor an Air Fuel gauge?

is there a way to attach somethign to the stock one to read the A/F ratio?

then you could have an indicator on your dash that maybe gives you the volts off it and would ( if you could undrstand the voltage) read your AF ratio?

sorry if this makes no sense it just "hit me"

of course I have predators with no 02 capabilities.

You could easily drill a hole in the pipes, any pipes and weld on a bung to thread the O2 sensor into. That is easy. But you need a wide band O2 sensor, not the narrow band sensor the bike came with. It also needs a power source (I believe it takes something silly like 2 volts or something from an exact and stable power source.) Over the normal operating range a wide band sensor would give you EXACTLY what you seek, and in fact some have done that, taking occasional readings and making detailed notes, then going home and modifying the map to accommodate the new data. I would like to put one on my bike soon. A couple of other projects are in first place, but maybe this year? Ultimately it is where we will all be headed.

No more heading out to a deserted street with a dozen fresh plugs to dial in your main jets. Maybe the modern gear heads will have a small black box and a power supply to carry with them as they snake a portable sensor up the tail pipe and make a few runs up and down that deserted road. 8)

isn't there a wide band power commander?

does this work?

if not, then at least you guys all understand why I'm hesitant to work on my own ride

It's only useful if you have WBO2.

You can't easily put it in the OEM bung. You'd have to get the ECU to read it and it's looking for an NBO2. It can be done but you'd probably need to head to Radio Shack.

You could Tuneboy off the O2 sensor and then connect a WBO2 with meter in the OEM bung.

You may be better off using EGT but in order for it to be of any use, you'd have to get it as close to the exhaust ports as possible and you'd need 3 of them. This would be pretty easy to do and you could hook them up to a Westach 3 EGT gauge.

ok thanks,

I guess the answer to my question is that the stock 02 sensor is not good enough to use.

I was thinking ( ran accross my stock 02 in the tool box)

wouldn't it be neat if the stock 02 was wired up to power and a gauge that if I could understand the readout I would know if I was lean or rich..
