Medic,
Triples are three K&N air filters you can install at the throttle bodies (behind the bear claw) as opposed to a single under seat stock filter. The stock one pulls in air from behind the seat. Just flip your seat over to see the air channels. Triples breathe better, allowing better air flow, and in turn, better performance. Many who do the triple install also upgrade their exhaust, and that necessitates a new ignition tune.
When you change one input or output, you may need to change others.
Example, at stock the bikes run kinda lean, so if you increase air flow, you maybe should change the fuel table, increasing fuel, to prevent kinda bad stuff rom happening, like burning up the pistons.
Look in the member photos for lots and lots of examples of triples and modified bearclaws.
