Bottom line - Can we get optimum power and gas mileage with the Tune Boy? Do we need a handheld/Dyno to check it, (which the dealer has). How does the Tune Boy work. Has anyone bought one and got increased HP and/or gas mileage. Is it worth spending the $300 something or more to buy one? I don't mind spending the $ if it works.
I'm getting the K&N air filter, will I need to retune?
I believe it's definitly the way to go. I just went from a bone stock RIII to Jardines and one of Wayne's tunes from tuneboy and it's a night and day difference in "Betty". I couldn't be happier, at least for the moment
I got mine from NewBonneville or new r3 http://www.newr3.com/html/performance.html
Arrived on time and they sent the software "Key" imediately upon request, the set up is simple and changing tunes is as easy as hooking up your laptop thru the USB cable to the Rockets ECU and follow the instructions, 5 to 10 minutes.
This is a neccessary piece of software if you are going to continue to add performance items to the rocket, your dealer can install tunes into the ECU to accomadate some of the modifications but very few dealers will remove the power reductions in the first 2 gears.
You asked what it does? in simple terms the ECU in the Rocket is programable and this little piece of software can program it, it can change the Air fuel mixture at any RPM and still allow the ECU to compensate for altitude and other variables, it is also a diagnostic tool but I haven't needed that, I added the TORS and a Cat bypass installed one tune then changed it to another to reduce the popping and now it runs unbelievable, the increase in the HP in the the first 2 gears alone makes it worth the price of admission.
