triumph tappet adjusting tool + Triumph computer issue

Hi all,

Does anyone have the tappet adjusting tool and can you postr pictures and dimensions so i can make one? i work at an engineering college so i should be able to get it done easy enough and if possible maybe a few extras if folk need em?

Also the triumph computer. Does anyone have one? how much do they cost? or is it better to buy one of these tuneboy things?

You have to be a dealer to use the Triumph tool. It has to be updated online through Triumph's dealer site. Tuneboy will do most of what the Triumph tool will do. There is a group buy going on at http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?p=529083#post529083


The Rocket is a shim in bucket design. And unlike the other triple engines Triumph makes there isn't a tool to swap shims. The manual says you have to remove the cams. And that is what I did, but I was replacing my cams too at the time. My local dealer, Engle Motors in Kansas City, Missouri, says they have made a tool to swap them.

sounds like there could be pennies to be made if i can make one then.

Had a look at the tune boy offer, and its gonna cost me £300+ uk pounds. n all i wanna do is servicing jobs, not re mapping etc.

Make a really good tool, program a CNC machine at college to replicate it, do a really good ad on ebay worldwide, with plenty of pictures and info and my bet is you'll sell a LOT - think I read somewhere that there are 18,000 Rocket IIIs been made...

You can hook up a regular OBDII code scanner to the Rocket also.
 

It is the construction of the RIII cylinder head that is the problem. Even if you have a tool that hold the valves down, you can not get the shims out. The camshaft has to be removed. It was a simple thing on the older Hinckley engines, hold down the valve, and let the shim out. Your dealer has a tool? Would like to see that.
