Transmission issue

I have another transmission shaft that has much less wear and gear teeth is intact however the u-joint on it moves less freely compared to the current one I am replacing.

can I spray with brake cleaner and see if losens up and then grease it or does it have any oring/seals inside.
I was able to find HONDA M77 lube on amazon.

I believe the m77 is more like an assembly line it doesn't have enough moly- in it.need moly- 60 paste loctite has a paste,Moly-kote has a paste to name a few.

They do have seals so I wouldn't use any kind of solvent. The only way to grease them is to take them apart. Not an easy job. Unfortunately the U-joint can't be purchased separately.

Pretty close to putting back the motorcycle together but have couple of wiring harness question as I did poor job of marking up when I pulled out the harness
>What is the color of wires of 3 pin connector that attaches to air box intake ( photo attached).There are 2 such connectors on main harness and is the other similar 3 pin connector not uses

I will have to look and see about the plug although the only plugs you could mix up Besides the coils and spark plugs is the turn signals Triumph used a different plug for each. anyway here is a shot of the proper coil wiring Number 2 coil as mounted on the bike.



OK check and see if the three wires into the plug are pink/gray, pink/black and just pink if so it is the map sensor plug which is mounter towards the rear and same side of the intake that you have the IAT plugged into.

I am not quite sure because its been years since I have seen a air box on a bike

Hello all, after assembling the motorcycle after output shaft bearing change noticed the clutch was not getting engaged .If I put it neutral & push the motorcycle hear a rattling sound and something was amiss .

Opened the front cover of engine to look for a broken detent spring but the spring appear to be ok .It appears none of the gears is getting selected ( does the selector wheel marking rotate when a corresponding gear is engaged, the photos attached is between downshifting & upshift. The wheel only moves back & forth and doesn't rotate).

Need your input to anything else I can check and can clutch basket be removed without using the special tool.

@v*twin been pondering on your statement above but also I am sorry I missed the basket question . Yes you can remove the basket without the special tool. as long as you use a impact wrench it will spin her right off. Going on is a wee bit tougher. I will go read the thread from the beginning to refresh my memory

By output shaft bearing change I am assuming you mean the torsional damper bearings? Did you remove the engine or just lift the rear frame up? and if you removed the motor did you split the case? I will go read the thread from the beginning to refresh my memory

Yes the torsional damper bearing was replaced by tilting the engine downwards. I had purchased a pre-pressed torsional damper with new bearings but unfortunately I couldn't find a silver torsional damper cover urgently and had to use a black cover. The bottom hole of gear position sensor of black cover doesn't align with engine case( I was thinking of using of some sort of external clamp to hold the sensor).There was some burrs and minimal chip on the output shaft gear that engages with torsional damper but had decided not to change that gear.


Then after putting back engine together I was not able to engage or adjust clutch and I was not able to get back to work on the motorcycle for a long time. When I rolled the motorcycle what I thought was neutral could hear rattling sound from the engine and thought could be drive shaft related and after removing rear axle , drive shaft seemed ok


And this week opened the front engine cover to look at the clutch and found nothing broken. Not sure if this normal but I was not able to engage in clutch by manually pulling the clutch lifter piece either.


I had forgot I had purchased the clutch basket holding tool when I Initially started work on torsional damper. The clutch plates, lifter piece, detent spring all look ok.


Now, when I engage gear with clutch assembly removed it appears sometimes gears are getting engaged (1st, 2nd and 3rd not able to confirm if 4th &5th).But sometimes when I engage gear I can rotate the input shaft freely and seems gears aren’t getting engaged intermittently.


Could this be gear selector shaft, fork or drum related and it would be great if you recommend if there are any other checks I can do without removing engine to give an idea of possible issue.

Well its a bummer I did not know about the cover. Amazing they do not line up. I wonder if a silver one would have. Had I known I would have tried to get one to you. Even though I have been out of state. Anyway if you end up pulling her I have one you can see if it will line up. If not is your old cover still good?




I'm not sure where I got from as I have been known to aquire parts.

Let me meander down to the barn to see if there is any noticeable differences between this new one and the one on the broken 05 motor I have. I can say the silver cover does fit and the boltholes do line up on a 07 black. Engine block I have in the basement.
