Transmission Issue!

I went to the Triumph shop yesterday to check out the damage to my transmission. The "cog" area on 4th and 5th were both worn where it had been slipping in and out of 4th. The sides of the shift fork was also worn and you could see where it was also rubbing at the top(?). However, Triumph agreed to pick up the repairs even though it's 8 months out of warranty.
GOOD and let it be known that Carpenter Racing can modify the Rocket gearbox by undercutting the gears to improve the engagement

ok guys I dont know if I got lost in the shuffle here or what But according to Triumph there was never an upgrade purchased or sent to my dealer for any of my trans repairs...could this be the cause of mine breaking twice? and do you think I have any recourse. The 2nd time it went the dealer told Triumph that I was running a car tire and Tiumph then backed off from any help due to unauthorised modifications ie blaming the use of the car tire as the blame for the tranny problem the third time was 6000 miles later and a regular bike tire ....am I just unlucky as all hell or is there such thing as a lemon law for this problem
I warned about Triumph turning down warranty work if you run a car tire

I wondered if Carpenter could do that, I will be contacting Bob after my trip, I only want to replace this thing once.

K bigfoot some time has passed has the dealer and triumph taken care of you? are you not posting anymore because you went bat s h i t killed everyone and are now in prison?

Just had an issue with my R3T.

Finding Neutral was a pain, did a clutch cable adjustment for 2-3mm as per manual & dealer advise. Seemed to pick up N ok so went for a run.. While out was making a left turn from stationary when there was a clunk, she locked up, bucked & stalled..

When checked by Triumph service, they said while in 1st she also engaged 2nd!!! They think it may be the D spring, but will be opening her up in the next few days..

If I had been going faster or in main traffic I'd have been wiped out!!

That sounds highly possible they way the detent system works. Although were talking two different shifting forks timed by the drum. (this means if the detent spring was broken and the drum rolled the first gear fork would be moving away from first as the second gear fork move in towards second gear. same but reversed when down shifting) So if first and second to be engaged at once it could also be your dealer finds a bent fork if he splits it. First thing I would do is scope the detent spring and see if it is still together and mounted. this can be done before you even pull the radiator. now looks the snap ring on fifth so the gear floats could put you in a position where what ever gear your in the transmission will probably lock up or sound like a bucket of gravel seems more likely. Since fifth would be floating on the shaft.

Still I would stick a scope up the water pump hole in the clutch cover first. This way I could decide which way I am going to have to go with the repair. scope shot of good detent spring below thru the water pump hole cheap Harbor Freight Scope.

what year R3T do you have?

Mine locked up at 80 mph and I will always remember looking to see if there was a good place off the road to bail out. she was fishtailing everywhere from the lock up.
