Transmission Issue!


I went to the Triumph shop yesterday to check out the damage to my transmission. The "cog" area on 4th and 5th were both worn where it had been slipping in and out of 4th. The sides of the shift fork was also worn and you could see where it was also rubbing at the top(?). However, Triumph agreed to pick up the repairs even though it's 8 months out of warranty.
 
Good outcome, but so they should. The damage you describe is completely atypical and can only have been caused by something not working as it should. Keep us posted.
 

Where did you get the tranny and whats the avg cost of one going for?
 
I just went through my third tranny or at least I think I did ...was on the way to the shop to get them to check the problem of forth gear slipping and jumping when all of a sudden it went all hell brke loose and it sounded like a blender full of metal and then the rear wheel locked up Now this is the third one and I am not beating it or shifting wrong etc. The first time Triuph paid the 2nd time I did now the third time I cant even make my rent payment due to being out of work so long So I guess it will have to sit for a long time before
it can be looked at. Is there any help or suggestions to fix cheaply or at least get Triumph to figure out the problem I am at my wits end right now And the only therapy I had was on two wheels. Its a 2006 with 78000 miles on it

I was lucky I got it for 250 bucks. Missed it the first time do to being out bid but the bugger did not come up with the cash so they contacted me since I have bought a bunch of stuff from them before. Like you I break stuff with the exception of the fact that I am hard on mine. without opening her up it would be hard to speculate but my first opinion is something broke and got caught between the gear teeth to lock the wheel up. Mine first one was a bent input shaft so she bound up at the front of the motor locking the wheel up at 80+ mph. Not a fun ride I might add. I had to buy some new drawers

Yours is a 05 which means it would work but most likely does not have the second gear update kit in it. which the gaer cluster could be bought seperately if the dealler would not sell him the update kit for it. Another problem he might have it his output drive, depending on whether it has been changed or not coudl be wasted and yours might not have been updated. Either way both motors would have to be pulled to compar, exchange and relplace what needs to be. Considering he is in Florida and shipping of your bike would be 500 or so it woudl be advisable to pull his and open it up before deciding the proper course. In th ecase of your motor did you know Pinwall has a complete 05 motor. A swap out would not be difficult and then you would have a motor to either sell or keep for spares.
