Is there a noticeable difference in power between TORS and Jardines? I have TORS now and actually like the look better but could be convinced to invest in the Jardines if there is a noticeable difference between the two.
Have the K & N triples and PC5 sitting in the garage so thought perhaps I should do the exhaust as well while I'm at it and prior to a dyno. Thanks!
I have TORS with no cat (Staintune crossover collector) and I'm happy with the performance, but then again I'm not trying to squeeze every single hp. Some people say they're a bit raspy but I quite like the way they sound. Jars are a fair bit louder, some say obnoxious. Not sure about relative performance improvements but at the end oif the day will depend on what else you've done and how you've tuned the bike. Jars will be lighter.
I think jardine claim a 20HP increase from their pipes. Not sure you'd get that from TORs and cat delete.
My bike had Jardines on it when I bought it. Nearly cum in me undies when I first heard it start up and was really worried about getting knocked off by Mr Plod for excessive noise. Now I don't reckon it's too offensive. Only when you really crack into it.
Might just be that I'm 50% deafer than I was 4 months ago.
The TORS with cat delet usually pull about 145hp tuned Jardines about 10 hp more so its up to you if 50 dollars or so per hp is worth it. They are a little louder but I have not heard from any police about mine. The predator performs like the Jardines only 1800.00 for the long can one. The Carpenter pipe will give you more hp then the Jardines or for that matter any other pipe out there but again the polished stainless like mine is 1700.00 so considerably more the the Jardines. Its about what you like and how much money you want to drop. I can honestly tell you I do miss the triple them look of the TORS with cat delete. I have every one of these pipes including the originals. you can not beat 3-1 for creating HP as every bend slows the exhaust flow down.
Also if your running a car tire you will give up 10 to 13 HP no matter what pipe you use.
Hope this gives you enough information to help make up your mind.
The TORs do have a more raspy sound which does sound really good. I had TORs / cat by-pass for a while. They also made the more free revving than the stock exhaust would allow. They probably add a good 10-15 HP over stock. I never had it dynoed with these.
Then I heard Britman's Jardines at RAA III and I had to have them. I even sold my color matched Beetle bags to get them. They are much deeper rumbling at idle and just sound awesome. Some might say they are too loud, but when I pull in to my local bike night, they are definitely not too loud. You can feel the deep rumble at idle though, even standing next to it. They do tend to resonate a bit inside a full face helmet though, but I still wouldn't trade them for anything. My last dyno run with Jardines, PC-III, and drop-in K&N air filter was 142HP / 140 lbs/ft. I believe with a little more tuning the numbers could get higher, but it's running so good now I'm just leaving her as is. Triple K&N air filters would probably add another 10-15 HP, but my bike is running too good to mess it..
THAT DEPENDS.
Mapping can make a big difference with either system.
Red - TORS with TORS map Blue - Custom mapping, TORS w/ triple K&N RU-2780 filters under Bearclaw.
White - Custom mapping, Jardine full system with triple K&N RU-2780 filters under Bearclaw.
Wayne.
Were those dyno runs done on the same bike???
Really not a massive break out in performance gain for the jars. Maybe 5 ponies better than stock headers and TORs but a lotta extra bucks in price.
Not the same bike, but representative of both exhausts with the same air filters.
The difference in output is 7-8 hp, with roughly the same torque.
Also, realize that my dyno reads 11-12% lower than a Dynojet at this output level. So the differences would be greater on an inertia dyno. But roughly the same 5.5% difference.
Wow - all that is extremely helpful. Thanks to everyone.
For 7 - 8 hp or 5.5% I may just stick with the TORS. I'll drop in the triples + remove secondaries and get it dynoed and see how that goes. That should keep me happy for at least a little while. Thanks again for all the very useful information - especially the graph.
