Tire change time 2012 R3R

Just ordered new tires this week. Rear tire will be Bridgestone Exedra Max 240/55/16 front tire will be Avon Cobra 150/80/17. Never ran these but anything will have to be better than the Metz. Metz has came out with the 888 series tire because the 880 series tires are junk. The reason I know this is because I contacted Metz myself complaining about their lousy tires.
Just curious Mully what was their responce if any. I'm pushing 11000 on mine, went to get a sticker and he kinda let me know they needed changing. The front tire is starting to show some wear on the left side. Where i live finding a good qualified dealer is like finding a needle in a hay stack..

As already stated - there are currently 3 options. Question is how do you ride and what is your ambient temperature like.

The Metzlers will grip even on icey roads. But they can overheat if you intend to push them hard in warm temps. My experience 100kms at 140kmh in 40ºC and the rubber peels off and the oil is burnt out of the rubber. Front and Rear. took 1mm tread off in 100kms. They are therefore excellent for off the lights squirting esp in cool damp conditions

The Avons cope better with heat BUT as a result do not grip as well if very cold. They need to be warmed up a bit. They seem to have a better shape for fast cornering. This said there seems to be evidence to support that they do not shed heat very well - so prolonged high speed use will get them too hot as well.

These above from dealers rs here and in Austria.

The Bridgestone so far seems to do better - sadly I cant fit one as I have a custom exhaust that is too close to the wheel to allow the taller fit.

My personal feel (mirrored by professionals and M/C race tyre experts) is that the R3's torque and weight pretty much require Z rated tyres with a sports silica rich compound. I run Z rated rubber - non standard sizes.

There is always the temptation to the other side of the force. But it's not for everybody.
