Searching for a slow oil leak and found this crack. What does one do to fix this?

Only thing to do is clean it off, then run engine & watch closely to see where oil is coming from. Might take a while.

I reckon it's more likely to be one of the adjoining gaskets....if not, you might be in the poo...............

Don't know if JB Weld would be able to come to the rescue on this one; if it was a actual crack. I'd definitely give it a try though; if that's the actual case... JB Weld is some pretty amazing epoxy.

Is it leaking through the length of the crack or at the junction of the crack and the gasket?
Is it a crack or a deformity in manufacture?

Can't tell if it is leaking there or not yet, as the leak is very slow. I have thoroughly cleaned it out and do not see anything seeping through it. I see in a response where Goth says he has a seem in the same place. This would be a very sloppy seem that I can stick my finger nail into if that is the case. Would be great if it is just a seem. The only place I have actually seen oil is at the bottom left corner of the engine, I assume because oil is running there due to leaning on the kick stand. I am going to run it today and see if I can locate the leak as I have thoroughly cleaned the engine. Thanks for all the tips guys.

Checked with Yankee, who has an 05 as well. Goth was right, this is a seam on the engine and not a crack. That is good news, now I just need to figure out where the leak is coming from. Ran the bike for 15 minutes and no leak so far. Thanks for all the advice.

The leak is probably from the front cover, just re-torque the bolts as per the manual.

Will give that a try and see what happens. I suspect you are right as the leak has to be coming from above the sump seal. Thinking maybe the large swings in temp and something a little loose is creating the leak. No leaks yet since checking it earlier.

not that I have a CLUE, but I was getting a few leaks & we finally determined that when we did an oil change, we overfilled it. freaked me out...
