The great "Harleys aren't worth that much anymore" observation

I should also make it clear that I'm in no way having a go at the OP or the original thrust of the thread. That was a genuine and honest observation deserving of comment. It's the bashing that's unbecoming.

My harley left me stranded once, it was the dealers fault for not connecting a ground wire, the harley is slow but when i want to go fast i ride the Honda Super Bird, when i want to go really slow i ride the Ninja500, when i want to show off i ride the Rocket, when i feel old i ride the Can Am Spyder but most of the time im riding my bicycle, im an equal oportunity biker:)

Must have been one of the reasons I got rid of the Harley, I have ridden many good japanese bikes as my signatue will show.

i dont think its so much the bikes themselves that guys are bashing, but the mentality of a large percentage of the HD owners, not all, who it seems are totally normal and fine, until they climb on their famous steeds, put the HD scowl on thier face, and are all of a sudden "above" all other 2 wheelers. ive seen a thousand of them, and it is just laughable

And I've seen otherwise normal guys hop on their Rockets and also feel superior. Only difference seems to be a grin instead of a scowl. What's your point. ;)

Think he doesn't like blokes who dress up like pantomime pirates and snarl / smirk at other motorcycle riders .. and in the words of Monty Python .." who does" .. hahahaha

That's laughable for sure. On the other hand though, they're guys getting a buz out of owning a bike and loving it. I bet if Triumph sold bandanas and branded everything in bright orange (OK, blue), and had built up a bad boy reputation (or rather played on the reputation of some of the bad boys who ride them) there'd be Rocket IIII owners dressing up the same.

My 'bad boy' mate Tang is just about to purchase a RIII. An '05 model with 18,000 klms on it. Been repainted black with lilac something or other .. I've seen it , looks trick. It's a well set up Rocket , good shockies , exhausts etc. He's got a souped up evo Dyna now. He is one of the bandana , pins everywhere crew .. to be hoped he don't bring his bad boy habits here !!!...hahahaha

I think if you keep them long enough you will get your money back but that pretty much applies to anything if you look after it. I paid $14711.00 for a 1990 Softail kept it 20 years and sold it with 4 days rego for $14750.00.

Well, considering what the dollar was worth in 1990... $14,500.00 in 1990 had the same buying power as $26,797.86 in 2014. :p

When I was buying my sporty the dlr told me "don't worry harleys hold their value" when I traded in on my dyna the dealer said "Not sportsters, the big twins are the ones that hold their value" when I sold my dyna it was for parts as the engine grenaded at 32,000 miles.
