just like most other captains I wanted to know how far past the reserve light I could go till the bike ran dry . for that purpose I carried a 2 gls fuel jerrycan and let her go till dry
speed was 70- 75,and mild accelerations, I was able to go 345 kms . but I suspect each bike will have a different number based on how it is ridden and how the tank float is rigged.

Is this a trick question? as the us gal and imp gal are not the same:eek:
How many liters did you use.

caught again darn!!
I used a imperial 2 gls can so let's see that makes it 9.09218376 liters but when I filled the tank I squeezed every drop in to it .I held the bike straight up for that purpose and I believe that tops at 26liters

Silly Canadians, trix are for kids. :p

And how many Imperial gallons does it take to find a decent hamburger shack? LOL

....Licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop that far north???????

A big factor to consider is how large the rider is, I have heard of some captains hitting 350# on the heavy duty post office scales:eek:(159k, 25stone) that is some mass and will lower your MPG also wind direction, time of day, are you at sea level etc etc etc etc etc, ride it until you run dry then call the AA, before the yanks start chirping in - no he is not a drunk (I do not know that for sure he is from Aberdeen):D

I have been paying attention to the fuel gauge and mileage the last couple of months. I found some interesting tidbits. For example..., As we all know, it is important to fill the tank to the same level each time when checking mileage. That can be difficult to do sometimes with that ridiculous fuel filler inside the gas tank. If you are at a pump that you can pump slow, you can fill it to the top. If you are at a pump that fills relatively fast, the level will be close to the bottom of the filler. The difference can have a huge impact on mileage.

If I run my R3T on the highway and take an extended cruise at 70 - 80 mph, I will get anywhere from 205 to 215 miles left to go on a full tank. My mileage will be between 40 and 41 mpg. When riding around town or on backroads, I will get between 160 and 170 miles left to go on a full tank. The mileage is then in the 30's. The increased "stop and go" and/or "varied" throttle action seems to decrease the mileage. My point being, going slower does not nesessarily mean better mileage.

I was on the highway for about a half hour heading home after a long back road ride and actually watched the "miles left to go" increase as my ride on the highway became longer. I can only assume the closed loop mode was working quite well at leaning the old girl out on the highway drone.

I do't know how you do it. Even riding carefully between 60-70 MPH I've never approached 40 MPG. Also, 215 divided by 5.8 equals 37.06 - pretty far from 40 (but better than I've ever done - city or highway).

Milage/gallons

Local driving light comes on at 120+ and Freeway riding at 160+..average 30+ local and will take arround 4 gallons to fill and close to 40 on hwy and will take 4 gallons to fill.I also have noticed that miles to empty increases as I decrease fuel to engine(backing off throttle)..As a rule I stop at 100 miles out for break in the am and fuel at 160-200 with lunch..same in the pm when touring..average 40.34 mpg on round trip to Arizona 2 weeks ago(not counting 300 mile trip with group of Triumph riders attending the SWTF in Prescott)..nothing special about my Rocket3Touring(KnN under seat and Jardines and just passed 30,000 mile mark)Cruised at 80 miles per hour whenever possible!:D

i love these threads...
furthest ive gone on a tank is 251 us miles.

put 6.17 us gallons in the tank.

still need to run out of gas to see how far i can go.

right now i fill up at 240 miles.

and my speeds range from 25 in town to 70 and higher on the hiway.

my commute to work and back is 78 miles.

have fun people.

I'm in the middle of a 10,000-mile ride. In Chicago today after putting 650 miles behind me. I'm going "pretty fast" so my mileage isn't that great. PLUS THERE'S THE ETHANOL THING...

Anyhow, I'm getting 37-43 all the time. I've seen close to 50 on slow day rides (45-55 MPH) but that ain't happening this ride.
