T-Bars, powdercoating, grooves and torque settings

I've fitted 1.25" t-bars to the Rocket3. On the original handlebars, there are "groves" where the handlebar joins with the yokes (I expected to provide extra friction). On the t-bars I think they were also there, but I have had the bars powdercoated so the grooves (if they were there) arent there anymore.

Given that these grooves arent there anymore, I am concerned about the bars "moving" when under hard braking. The 4 bolts on the yokes have been wratcheted down hard but I was wondering if specific torque settings would be required?

Also - given that the grooves arent there - is this likely to be a hazzard when hard braking - ie. slipping/moving?
 
My T bars came with the heavy chrome filling in most of the "grooves" and no amount of torque could get them tight enough...my solution was a a little super glue...works great...you may want to grind out the excess material with a dremel or file....
 
Super glue? Do yo mean loctite Superglue? Is that not too britle? Would it stand up to hard braking? When you say "get rid of excess material" - do you mean the powder coating? That has to be removed prior to using the adhesive?
 
Putting T Bars on tonight, now you have got me a lil nervous :shock:
 
Dead easy.lmg.Trouble with powder coat is if the bars do move inside the clamps it will chip.But having said that ive got Tbars and they aint moved but they also aint powder coated.If your worried put the bars on lightly and mark where the clamps go.Then get a sharpe knife and scrape the powder coat of the knurled bits but not past where the clamps fit so that it wont be seen.
 
I believe that as long as you tighten the front bolts first and then pinch the bar with the back ones you will be alright. There was actually a recall on that.

There was a tightening problem when I first got the beast...about 50 miles down the road when I left the shop the stock bars collapsed onto the tank...I was pissed and the shop got the proper fix...the the T bar happened again...the mechanic didn't state "locktite" but said the excess chrome had filled part of the tighening splines... but at 6'5"/300# and my heavy lean/push/pull test didn't budge the bars..easy fix...
 
P.S.....does any one know who makes gauge brackets to mount onto the 1 1/4 " bars...Thunderbike failed to mention that added accessory gauges (fuel) will not mount up...

Kuryakin 'P' clips do the trick.
