I have my Rocket's preload up to almost max for what the owner's manual says is for 2 up riding. The spring is way too limp with no preload on it for my weight. I have an Ohlins TR-729 on my Bobber with a spring rated for my weight and I have a bunch of preload on that unit to get the sag to minimum so I get maximum shock travel out of the shock before bottoming. It looks like this:If you’re getting 23% at 300lbs, I would expect the rear spring would be too heavy for people under 200lbs.
The more load you put in the seat the more preload you have to add so the shock works properly. The OEM shock on my Bobber was for a human about 150 to 170 pounds and had no preload adjustability. It bottomed out over the smallest bumps sending spine jarring jolts with eye watering results before I switched it out. I also had to replace the fork springs with heavier springs and added emulators to the forks for compression and rebound adjustability just so the bike was rideable for more than 10 minutes pain free. Now it's an all day ride no problem.
