Surging power stumble
There's a problem that has arisen on two occasions, or rather developed during two periods, during my ownership of the Rocket (2 years now). I'll call it a surge or a power stumble (no doubt the latter). It's occurrence appears just below the peak torque RPM. Application of power, at high RPMs when she's pulling strong, the problem isn't noticeable; but I imagine if you're really taxing the horse power RPM range it may also occur. I don't get into that range for long at any time.
The root of the problem is the two leads on each of the coils. Be sure to at least renew a clean contact on them and if inclined apply a bit of di-electric compound to each of the three pair of lead contacts. I accomplished this the first time only on the more accessible (green) outside wires the first time (half assed) and a year later (now) I applied the same corrective action to the innards. Dirt and grime as well as pressure washer blasting may upset the contacts. It's a shame that boots aren't OEM installations, to cover these contacts. She's back to running like a scalded beast. Yee-haw!
