Strange rear brake

Update, well after standing a few weeks I went for a 150km ride and the rear brake still had the spongy pedal, so I purchased a speed bleeder, cost $60 including postage, the Staglbus bleeder valve, put it in tonight and gave the brake system a good bleed. Certainly the pedal feels the best I have had for a long time with very little travel but the test will come after the bike been sitting for a week or two.

Bleeding the brakes is something I've neglected for some time. Finally got around to it last month before my last rides of the season. My rear brake has always been spongy since new. After bleeding the caliper (surprised at the amount of air that was in the system), it firmed right up. I also removed the front and rear pads, cleaned them up, removing the build up in the groves then placing them on some fine sandpaper (flat surface) to true them up. What a difference in stopping performance. Also, no more squeal. Fronts feel a lot better also since replacing the brake fluid.

There is a noticeable improvement after bleeding the brakes and cleaning up the pads. I also activated the ABS to cycle the old fluid out of the unit by hammering the brakes. Re-bled the brakes again after. Bleeding the brakes at the recommended interval is highly recommended after seeing the improvement in brake performance.
