Stepper motor


older style tps has blck inards new style has blue. Yours is a 05 so if it has never been changed it will have the od style.

If you do not have tuning aids to set it you should not just pull it off. Tune boy has such ability. If you install a new one the next step would be to sync them by performing a idle stepper motor control voltage reset. before doing this cleant the linkage area with WD40 to insure everything is free moving. From reading your post about moving the stepper motor arm and lowering the rpm until you release it tells me it is not in sync with the TPS and therefore the ECU map either.
If you have tune boy changing the tps and resetting ISCV is a snap as it walks you right thru it step by step on the screen.

As brit man said you can run without a stepper motor I did for over 20,000 miles before I went back to it. With the TTS blower kit pulling it was in the normal instal directions. You would not notice a engine fault as you automatically had one when you eliminated the MAP sensor. I have since corrected the problems keeping one from running these items with the blower. All you have to do is pull the stepper motor and either leave it plugged in and under the tank or unplug it and hide the wire. You then adjust idle via the manual 0% stop set screw and lock nut.

If you eliminate the motor and your TPS is bad you will just experience different problems with fueling accuracy of the map. First worry about the TPS and I bet your stepper motor is still good and working fine.

The stepper motor is coming off and going to a auto electrician tomorrow . Hes a clever little bugger and said the sierra had the same type of setup and they used to play up . When i get it back I think im going to just leave it connected and tuck it away .If its tucked away it can go in and out all it likes and not worry anyone lol ive lost a bit of faith in this little sucker ,i ride alot on a very windy road and if my wife was on the back and it played up id hate to wear a bank . shed be pretty pissed cause shes only just got back on after our crash 15 yrs ago lol.
 


SO basically what you saying is that if the TPS is shafted, i cant just buy another one and replace it, i have to piss about with the computer to sync them.

This is bad news as i dont play with the ecu nor do i have the kit to.

mmmm so im saying bye bye little stepper motor you have a good life bolted under my seat . At least im not going to hit a bank at high speed now because little stepper has a bad attitude on that day . when my local dealer sees it they will say "you cant do that" like they did with my car tyre and when i say "why" theyll say because you cant thats that haha. I thank you guys for all the info you give people like me who would have normally have no bloody idea .As for mr TPS he can send all the signals he likes all round my beast but it wont be really listening . thanks again cheers Dino

I'm far from comfortable with a computer but have reset the TPS and adjusted the Stepper motor on my bike by myself in the last days.
I now know for sure that most likely the TPS on my bike is irratic to say the least and am more than confidnet that when I get a new one I can fit it up by myself. It really is that easy.

Yes you can "just buy another one and replace it", but you do need to be able to set it's voltage, which requires a computer program. You're not fracking with the ECU itself, but aligning the voltages of the new unit so at it can read it correctly.
Same with the Stepper motor (Idle speed controller as Triumph would discribe it).
It's all explianed clearly in the threads if you take the time to read it properly.

Mate, if you're comfortable with a computer (and I wasn't) and want to do it yourself then go read up on TuneECU stuff and buy yourself a lead and download all the stuff you need.
It isn't hard and doesn't need a lot of computer to do it. All mines done from a very basic 10" laptop.

P.S. If you decide to do it, order the lead early. It's the only ingredient missing to making it all happen. The rest is there for the taking.

As a dumbarse newbie to computers and forums I reckon I've came a full fold forward in my abilities over the past 4 weeks just by having a try at sorting this problem out.
I am quite proud of my acheivement even if I do say so myself.
 

Mr. TPS is used for other things then just idle parameters. Timing tables along with the Fueling tables are controlled by RPM and TPS position. Its is a very useful bugger.
 

Your call Dino, but I wouldn't.
There's a lot more to it than just making the bike idle when cold, and besides that, I reckon you're pointing the finger of blaim at the wrong devil.
It's the TPS that makes the stepper motor seem like it's crazy so you didn't really fix the problem at all in the end.

Will it fix your high idle? Yes, but it didn't fix the real problem as I understand it.

well took the stepper off it went great but was idling to slow so in my great wisdom took out thr sensor by the throttle so it was easier to get to the adjustment and bingo that bloody light came on ,put the bike in shut down mode (bugger) now it wont rev over 3000 with out missing and backfires like buggery . took it back to the shop and explained what i did ,they wanted the stepper back on so on goes the stepper again so they can diagnose the problem .they had it 4 hrs and didnt look at it even though it was booked in . they were still more worried bout my car tyre again lolol so i dont really know what to do now. im over them i know their over me haha .any advice will be greatly appreciated
 
Put everything back together and replace the Throttle Position Sensor with updated version then recalibrate to the stepper-motor. You will need a Triumph dealer or TuneECU/TuneBoy software and cable to calibrate.
