speedometer died

Just got back from my first ride of the season, and about half way into the ride, the speedometer died. The odometer displays but does not change. Any suggestions as to what may be the problem.

Me thinks I read this happening to someone elsewhere, if I find it I'll let ya know.

Mine died with just under 30k. It happenend on the ride home after killing the battery (I left the key on for over 4 hrs) and jump starting it. Don't know if it's just by chance.
 
I was wondering what you did to fix it? Yourself and how or did you take to the shop. My problem with the shop, is that any time I have had to take it there, I was a month getting it back.
 
My speedo (and alot of other things) did really wacky things while the ignition switch was acting up.
Hope you figure it out.
