OK, loads of good advice received, thanks. I ended up chasing the thread like Gerald suggested, then new plug finger tight plus a 1/4 turn. Didn't want to take the risk of torquing it up too much. After waiting ages for the new HT leads to get here (anybody'd think there was a war around here or something), finally fired it up. It works! Eid Mubarak! Great joy and merriment all round! Engine up to temp, a quick test ride round the block and all is good; longer run imminent.

Quick question though, as always - while faffing around I must've dislodged the MAP sensor, leading to an odd idle and check engine light. Easily diagnosed and fixed by pushing the tube back in but while I had TuneECU connected I noticed the cylinder MAP readings at idle are 650, 620, 630. I know general guidance is to keep these within 10 hPa of each other, but is it worth correcting right now, or can I leave it for a while? I'm kinda keen to get out on the beast again, been deprived for too long.
Good to balance, but you could probably hold off for a while, although, it doesn't take long to do and should make for better throttle response and smoother idle.

I was thinking, as for balancing the tubes, you know you asked me about the Ramair kit. If you’re going in that direction, you’ll be retuning it anyway.

True, but rhe Ramair is a distant proposal, at least until I find gainful employment. Right now, after spending wodsadosh on the HT leads and needing new brake pads and tyres......
