I agree. Looks like the bead got broken. It happened to me mounting the very first first Yoko. I am on my 4th darkside between two bikes. Won't ever go back.

I had a similar thing about 2 or 3 tyres ago. I was watching the bloke struggle to put the tyre on and I heard an unpleasant noise in the process. He didn't seem to pay much attention to it and completed the job and I put the wheel back on the bike. I rode the long way home and when I got home I checked the tyre and pressure - and saw the bulge on the side. I took the wheel off, took it to the dealer, and he replaced the tyre. 20+ thousand miles later and I replaced it again.

It can happen, but fortunately it doesn't happen too often. I suspect that the rim protectors they use force the tyre to stretch a bit more when they are going on and this can cause problems fitting and possibly bead failure.

i have found that some tires leak through the side or top into the outer layers they usually start with a small bubble and if you put a hole in that you have a very minor leak. if you leave it alone it will keep growing until the tire blows. not a good idea to have a tire with a bubble cause when the tire gets hot the air expands and makes bubble bigger.

I had this problem with my Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 after about 3000 miles. I'm assuming it was a problem with the mounting. Considering how much the shop argued against putting that tire on in the first place I just bit the bullet and got another tire and had it installed by someone else.

Thanks for photo posting. Apart from the side of the tyre mine being the right hand side , it looks identicle in apperance. Will bribe the fitters with a few beers as well as insist on replacement tyre , will have to see how we go.

Even the ME880 are a struggle to get on .. mate that I get my tyres from reckons Rockets are one of the trickiest bikes to fit rear tyres to.

My federal 595 has done a bit over 25,000km and is getting close to the end of its life (about another 2 to 3,000km left in it) but I can tell you it has never slipped in dry or wet and even to day when I went for a fairly fast punt up thru the back roads to Yass from the B/Bay in 1 3/4 hour to catch up with an old High School friend and have lunch, It behaved perfectly.

I wish I could say the same for the Michelin Commander II 140/75/16 front tyre It is a fantastic handling tyre and allows me to attack the twisty stuff even harder than I did before but it is going to be lucky to see 6,000km and unfortunately not a very good tyre to have on the front while towing a trailer a wider footprint 150 tyre is better suited on some of the rougher country roads but was fine on the smoother Hume Hwy
