What is the difference in rear shocks between the standard and the touring models ???

none Crap is Crap no matter how high you can pile it or or how you shape it. It is still crap. Go Hagon or Progressive and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a new rider, but I got 5,200 miles on my R3T this summer, I thought the ride was pretty good, it's a tourer, not a sport. Just my 2 cents. Way better than my Dynaglide, at least.

Is that 5200 miles from new? If so your shocks and springs are probably coming to the end of their life. If you think the ride is good now, wait till you try the Progressives or one of the other aftermarket brands.
When I replaced the suspension on my R3 ,the old suspension was like riding a drunken fat lady on a water bed.

Now that sounds like reckless driving!!!!!!

Alright, it was bad enough accepting that motorcycle tires only last 1/5 as long as car tires, now you guys are telling me that my shocks are nearing the end of their life at 5200 miles? Sheesh, I may have to go out and get a job to support my motorcycle habit. For real? My Chevy 2500 HD has 235,000 miles, still has the original shocks, come on! To paraphrase - "What have I gotten myself into now, Stanley?" Hmm, maybe I can use this information to convince the wife I need some more bikes to spread the miles around more.

The R3T models have the extra "Fat Chick" option, where they give you stiffer shocks depending on the waistline of your favorite pillion.

This is not to be confused with the "Fat Guy" option where no matter what, you need the Progressve 440HD's because you are (like me) pushing the definition of "porcine" (or as we prefer it, "just big-boned").
